for the first time...

This is a new etching, which I made today in the studio. It came together so well after sitting for a couple of minutes with the plate in front of me, ready to be drawn on. I took the images from different pages in my sketchbook and put them together in this weird little world. Jesse says it reminds him a bit of Saul Steinberg and I don't mind that at all. The writing on the ribbon is based on a poem that I didn't write, but maybe I'll really be like Steinberg some day and come up with clever words of my own.

I'm really pleased with this piece.

The room inside the tree is very surreal, and it is nice to see the reoccurring bike motif in your work. I recently pulled a BSA bike frame from the trash, a British make. It rides well, very differently than the more upright Dutch bike. I think that etching and your style go together really well, looking forward to seeing more!

This is great! Is this picture the plate itself or the print the plate makes?

Nicholas: It's the image that gets transfered from the plate during the printing process. This image is just ink on paper!

Hey, I appreciate the comment you left... oh wait not the other day. A while ago. Huh. I could swear I read it just the other day.

Anyway, I always try to keep up with everyones stuff, but actually commenting on it... not so much. I just wanted to say that all your printmaking stuff is really beautiful. The linework on drawing of the cafe was really lovely, and those bus/chair monoprints were perfect.

I hope everything is going well in Liverpool!
