postcards!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I was getting promotional postcards made for my agent to send out to publishers...well here are some photos of them!

They have already gone out and the response has been tremendous!

If you would like a postcard please email me with your name and address. I have a few extras and would be happy to share!

Here's a sneak peek at a painting I am working on. It's acrylic, a medium I used to paint with all the time but haven't in the last couple of years or so. Watercolor was much easier to travel with while I was living abroad and then I became attached to it, greatly developing my style and technique. It's been in my mind recently to pick up some acrylic paints (I didn't even own any since moving back to the US!) and then yesterday I set to work on this, sort of out the blue.

It's great when things just happen like that.

mural time!

Oh man, I'm only a few days away from the largest art project I've ever done -a mural!

This has been in the works for over a year, talking and sketching and planning. Now it's finally happening and I'm excited and a bit nervous! It's the outside wall of 1369 Coffee House in Inman Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts. I worked here for three years while attending art school in Boston and have a particular fondness for the place.

The design came out of a desire to incorporate different elements of the coffee house's life. The owner and employees brainstormed and came up with many great ideas, which I pulled together into one image: a diagram of an espresso machine. It's not accurate or technical at all, but rather an interesting way to show how things like music, cycling, the community, and of course coffee, are all part of this amazing establishment. I wanted to show how great this place is and make it a beautiful thing to look at.

Below are the current mural. I'm not sure how long it's been there, probably a long time...

If you are a local or will be in town, feel free to come around and take a look at the progress. I'll be updating this blog with photos of the progress every few days.

Wish me luck!

summer paintings

Eve after the fall, based on the sculpture by August Rodin
Nels and Eline's apartment in Rotterdam.
River
Waves

I painted these this past summer while in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Jesse and I had just moved out of England and were spending the summer in Europe doing fun things and visiting friends. My color palette grew into shades of turquoise contrasted with warm oranges and reds. I posted some of these in the summer but I wanted share them again after I scanned them with a higher quality scanner (it makes all the difference!).
